Values

Each of us are the blend of our insights, observations, experience, relationships and passions. There is no such thing as a “self-made man” and there is a liberation towards great heights embedded in that fact.

I seek to bridge the rural and the urban, the aesthetic and the efficient, the extravagant and the austere within the work that I do.

My beliefs lie in the stewardship of human potential and the preservation of the grandeur of the natural world. Everyday is a gift and at the end of it all my hope is to walk towards the finish line with weathered hands, a full heart and the calm of knowing that I strove to leave the world a better place.

A true conservationist is a man who knows that the world is not given by his fathers, but borrowed from his children.

In order to feel cold, you have to feel hot; in order to feel safe, you have to feel at risk. Contrast is the true measure of a complete experience.
— Tom Kundig

Experience

The personal arc of my life has led me to TimberRise. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest raised amongst the high-pitched whine of my Dad’s chainsaws, moss covered forest floors and the smell of bar oil and sawdust. I’ve worked alongside politicians who sought the common good, walked marble hallways while working in the White House and helped draft policy for legislative bodies seeking to improve people’s lives. I’ve spent long days on a New York bond trading floor, have helped grow the skyline of urban cities and have worked to place land in permanent conservation for future generations. All the while I have prioritized spending time in wild places throughout the “home range” of the Cascades, bisecting from north to south, my home state of Washington. I am the composition of it all and these experiences are deeply woven into the DNA of TimberRise.
